The line-up for a free outdoor concert in the North East is Whole Again, following the addition of another big name act.

Atomic Kitten, who have sold more than eight million records worldwide, will be performing at Bents Park, South Shields on Sunday July 12 as part of the South Tyneside Festival 2015.

The open air gig will be co-headlined by boyband 5ive, with support from South Shields band, The Waiters – both of whom were announced by event organisers, South Tyneside Council, last month.

Atomic Kitten dominated the charts in the late 1990s and early 2000s, following the release of their debut single, Right Now, in 1999.

After that they enjoyed five years of international success, with three number ones, including Eternal Flame, The Tide Is High and global smash, Whole Again, which stayed at the top of the UK charts for five weeks.

The multi-award winning trio took a break to pursue solo projects and family commitments following their worldwide sell-out tour in 2004, with the original line-up reuniting for ITV reality show, The Big Reunion, in 2012.

Atomic Kitten will be appearing alongside 5ive and The Waiters as part of the South Tyneside Festival’s Sunday Concerts programme, which will also welcome headline performances by Billy Ocean (July 19), Sophie Ellis-Bextor and The Feeling (July 26) and North East stars Joe McElderry, Collabro and Lola Saunders (August 2).

Councillor Alan Kerr, Deputy Leader of South Tyneside Council with responsibility for Culture and Leisure, said: “Atomic Kitten is one of the UK’s biggest ever girlbands and we are delighted that the original line up are back together and heading for South Shields.”

The South Tyneside Festival, which runs annually at venues across South Shields, offers free live music and entertainment for all ages from June until the end of August.

Other highlights in this year’s event include an Alice in Wonderland themed parade on July 4, twice weekly performances at the open air Amphitheatre during June, a series of brass band performances at the same venue every Sunday until the end of August and craft markets at Harton Quays on the first Sunday of the month from June to September.
