Jabberwocky Markets

Jabberwocky Markets are award-winning theatre events in Darlington that pop up in sometimes surprising venues…

Jabberwocky Markets believe that Darlington is a remarkable town. World-class theatre ties together our culture and theatre history, with our market-town tradition, in a new and really exciting way.

This is a unique type of event, created especially for the people of Darlington, designed and run by theatre producers from the town, in partnership with internationally acclaimed partners and performances. It’s a market – but not as you know it!

This Spring there are four very different productions taking place as part of Jabberwocky Market’s ongoing programme of events:

Saturday 12 March
11am & 2pm
Venue: Cattle Market
Ages: 2-8
Tickets: £10/ £7 (£12 on the door)

Look down. What are you standing on? Explore the ground and all of its wriggling inhabitants in this quirky dance show for young children.

Featuring worms, slugs, snails, spontaneous outbreaks of ant dancing and plenty of obscure insect-related facts, Grass uses performance, puppetry and projection to inspire children to look closely at the world around them, to get mucky and play!

Saturday 19th March @ 8pm
Sunday 20th March @ 2pm
Venue: Teesside University, Darlington Campus
Age: 14+
Tickets: £10/ £7 (£12 on the door)

Jess Thom has Tourettes, a condition that makes her say ‘biscuit’ 16,000 times a day. Her unusual neurology gives her a unique perspective on life; one she’s unleashed on the world. This two-woman solo show weaves comedy, puppetry, singing, and incredible tics to explore spontaneity, creativity, disability, and things you never knew would make you laugh. Geranium bashing and penguin gangbangs may or may not feature – no two shows can ever be the same. Jess is neurologically incapable of staying on script, and that’s when the fun begins.

Friday 1st April @ 8pm
Venue: TBA
Age: 14+
Tickets: Pay what you decide!

Is the North East of England becoming the UK’s Detroit, like The Guardian said in 2014?   Join us to take a surreal trip around the region and far beyond.  I am a rat, he is a rat, she is a rat, everyone gets to be a rat.  Do you want to be a rat?

Sunday 24th April @ 2pm
Venue: Darlington Boxing & Martial Arts Academy (Saturday) and Dolphin Centre (Sunday)
